Orange Grove Recycling Trivia

You've heard over and over again that if we want to make a positive impact on the environment as all of mankind, each person must make his or her own commitment and do his own part. The recycling process starts in each of our own homes, and we have to be careful of our actions if we really want to make a difference with orange grove recycling. But it can be fun, and just knowing what you're doing is a motivation to keep helping the earth.

1. Every year all over the world people throw away nearly three billion nappies. Around 90% of these become part of a landfill, where they will take about 500 years to completely decompose.

2. For the disposal of these nappies, about $500,000 is set aside every year by the Bristol City Council.

3. In the United Kingdom, batteries in over 20,000 tones are disposed of and sent to various landfill sites. It takes fifty times more energy to produce one battery from raw materials than that battery will provide in its life.

4. The garbage produced in one single day in the United Kingdom could fill Trafalgar Square to the height of the Nelson Column.

5. On average, one individual will go through 170 bottles and jars, 70 cans of food, 90 drink cans, and 45 kg of plastic in one year.

6. In Bristol alone, 45 million plastic two-liter bottles are disposed of every year.

7. Twelve billion cans are used every year in the United Kingdom, and this amount would be able to stack up to the moon and back down.

8. In England and Wales, each person will produce about 500 kg of household waste in one year.

9. Bristol citizens collected and recycled ten thousand tons of paper just during last year.

10. Disposable nappies are made from 7 million trees that are cut down every year just for that purpose.

11. An average British family will throw away the equivalent of six trees in paper every year.

12. Seventeen trees are saved for every ton of paper recycled.

13. Nearly 4,500 tons of glass bottles and jars were collected and recycled last year in Bristol.

These facts may be specific to the United Kingdom, but they are still poignant to look at no matter what your locations. The United States has drastically improved the amount of recycling it does since 1990, which makes a huge impact and is very encouraging when it comes to recycling today. Fifteen years ago in the United States, only about 15% of the waste in the US was being recycled. Today, that number has doubled to nearly 30%. This is very impressive, but citizens can still improve the statistics. Do your part and start orange grove recycling today!
